Name: Fabian Augustus Burnbridge
Character screen-name: lonely_boy
Your photo-credit: Henry Thomas
Age: 16
Nationality: English.
Allegiance and why: Fabian has no real idea of what is happening outside his home. He gains some idea from the books he reads, but would be happy for everything to stay the way it is. If there was a revolution he isn’t quite sure what would happen to him.
Social Status and/or Occupation: The ward of judge Augustus Burnbridge.
Brief physical description of your character: Fabian is a sickly boy, pale and frail. He doesn’t look very much like his uncle and most people would be surprised to find they were related. He looks very much though like his mother, Lucy, the judge’s beloved younger half-sister. He has curly brown hair and brown eyes and would be quite handsome if he grew a little stronger. He wears very conservative clothes and doesn’t follow fashions, bright colors and fanciful fabrics are unknown to him.
Brief description of your characters history, including family: Fabian is the illegitimate son of Lucy Burnbridge, Judge Augustus’s twenty-three year old sister and a business associate of Judge Augustus. Lucy was a sweet young woman, and quite the most beautiful in London although she had the mental age of a child. Judge Augustus doted upon her, trying to protect her from anyone who would take advantage of her and introduced her only to those he thought he could trust. However his trust was betrayed and one of his friends seduced Lucy.
Lucy fell pregnant with a child, but Augustus had to be told by her physician as Lucy was unaware you could become pregnant outside of marriage. The pregnancy was hard on her –she alternated between being delighted about the prospect of a new doll and becoming distraught as her lover had not returned to see her, although she would not tell Augustus who he was – the man having sworn her to secrecy.
Fabian was born in the middle of the night, Lucy hemorrhaged during the birth and the baby wasn’t expected to live, being born with a blue tinge around his lips and cold, clammy skin. Lucy died soon after leaving Augustus with a nephew to care for. Unable to stand having lost Lucy he dedicated himself to keeping her child alive. He named the baby Fabian, continuing the family’s tradition of roman names. He adopted the boy, making him his ward and employed doctors and nurses to care for him constantly. The boy had a weak heart and fainting spells and had to be kept away from the excitements most young men in enjoy.
Fabian was confined to the house and mostly to bed rest. He was brought the best tutors to improve him mind and spent most of his time reading in the library. He was only allowed outside under supervision of the Judge to go to Church on Sunday and visit his mother’s grave.
There he met Ruben who greatly impressed Judge Augustus and he allowed him to become Fabian’s personal priest, letting him come to the house and take care of Fabian’s spiritual tuition.
Fabian is currently set to become the fifth earl of Carmarthen although he doesn’t think he could live up to the title. He’s knows he’s too sickly to take a seat in parliament or continue his uncles work in the law and he also fears someone might try to use his illegitimacy against him. Currently he would be happy with his uncle allowing him to spend a little more time outside and get to know a few more people.
Characters I would like to see in game:
Fabian’s nurse/the house keeper. A stern woman who runs the household for judge Augustus and insures Fabian isn’t over excited and takes his medicine. – Maggie Smith in Secret Garden PB requested.
A younger secondary nurse who helps to look after Fabian. She wishes to have Fabian go outside more and is in a war of opinions with the older nurse over his treatment. If Judge Augustus ever found out about her attempts to change Fabian’s treatments he’d have her fired. – suggested PBs: Rose Byrne
Fabian’s father. A waster and a scoundrel, he returns only upon discovering his son will inherit a title, hoping to sponge off the young boy’s generosity.
